Newport Olympic Gymnastics Club

Contact Information:

Newport Olympic Gymnastics Club from Newport in Shropshire, is a gymnastics club which is steadily growing in numbers with about 150 members based at Newport and a further 50 members at the Flix Gymnastics Club at the Maurice Chandler Sports Centre near Market Drayton. The Club is a registered charity and a member of the British Amateur Gymnastics Association (British Gymnastics) and operates within their rules, and is affiliated to the West Midlands Amateur Gymnastics Association.
In 2008, the club was awarded GymMark accreditation for excellent work in development, training.and events programmes, duty of care and child protection, sports equity, ethics and administration. Accreditation is British Gymnastics' endorsement of a quality run gymnastics club. Parents/Carers of children who are members of a GymMark club can feel confident that their children are enjoying gymnastics in a "safe, effective and child-friendly" environment.
The Club caters for both girls and boys, ranging in age from three years up to seventeen. For the younger members there is a Pre-School group who have lots of fun in activity sessions on a Saturday afternoon. New members usually come in at beginner level (fitness and fun) where there are training sessions for both girls and boys aged between five and ten. If they show or gain the required skills, new members move up to the improver, development, floor and vault, pre-squad and squad groups. These groups learn a higher level of skills as artistic gymnasts as defined by the National Development Plan (NDP) within gymnastics.
